Sr. Flight Software Engineer

Job Description:

Our client is responsible for managing the NASA Goddard Software Engineering Services II (SES II) contract. This includes the following software engineering capabilities: Systems Engineering, Ground Software, Flight Software, Flight System V&V, IT Development, Science System Development and Data Processing. Our client is looking for an experienced Flight Software Engineer to support the Flight Software Systems Branch at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The Flight Software Branch develops platform-independent, Flight Software and Systems.

Summary of work

This task provides engineering support for developing CCSDS DTN Bundle Protocol and associated management applications. The applications shall be written as a set of cFS applications and associated cFS loadable libraries. Library functions shall include block level interface drivers to a Solid State Disk or Flash device subsystem. CCSDS CFDP interfaces will also be utilized as source and destination payloads within DTN protocol units.

  • This work is a Technology Development (TD) project with all work done in accordance to NPR 7120.8A NASA Research and Technology Program and Project Management Requirements.
  • Competency areas include expertise with the following Software areas:
  • Bachelor of Sciences degree, or equivalent experience, in computer sciences, engineering or mathematics and at least 15 years relevant work experience.
  • Communication networks
  • Demonstrated skills in network protocols
  • Flight Software programming
  • Demonstrated skills in real-time and/or embedded software development using the C programming language, the Linux operating system, and real-time operating system kernels such as RTEMS

  • cFS programming
  • Block storage device interfaces (Flash, rotational disks)
  • Low level device driver software interfaces
  • Full Software systems development life cycle
  • Flight and ground command and telemetry systems
  • CCSDS BP specification, including compressed bundle headers and aggregate custody signaling
  • IETF RFC 5050 BP specification
  • CCSDS File Delivery Protocol (CFDP)
  • Low level device driver development for Linux, and RTEMS
  • Xilinx tools and target development boards
  • Demonstrated skills in conducting internal software design reviews and monitoring flight software development.
  • Software Configuration Management Systems such as git configuration tools
